ENVIRONMENT AND HEALTH

One of the basic human rights is the right to live in healthy environment. Protection of this right is one of the main prerequisites for the nation's health and welfare.

Under the “Environment and human health“, the World Health Organization implies the aspects of human health and morbidity, determined by environmental factors. It encompasses the assessment and control of those environmental factors that can potentially affect health. Besides, according the World Health Organization, “environment” means not only the physical, chemical, and biological factors and natural environment components, external to a person,  (e.g. atmosphere, soil, water) but also the elements of living area, such as buildings, places of work and entertainment. Risk factors can be categorized as follows: air, water and soil, polluted with chemical and biological reagents;  ultraviolet ionizing radiation; noise and electromagnetic field; risks related to professional activities; human-induced climate change; ecosystem change etc
.
According to WHO, 13 million deaths could be prevented every year worldwide by making our environments healthier.

Environmental factors influence 85 out of the 102 categories of diseases and injuries listed in The World Health Report.

According to the WHO 2012 studies, the life expectancy in Georgia is 74 years thus rating 89th in the world. Leader countries’, i.e. Switzerland and Japan, life expectancy is, respectively 83 and 84.
