We are announcing a poster contest

To mark International Desertification Day, you are invited to participate in the poster contest ‘’Perspectives on Desertification and Sustainable Land Management in Georgia’’

Desertification and soil degradation threaten one third of the earth's surface, leaving more than  one billion people without a source of income and living conditions.

Desertification and land degradation are not only ecological problems for Georgia, but also social and economic ones. Excessive grazing, deforestation, unsustainable agricultural practices, and irrational land acquisition are the main causes of land degradation for urban development.

International Desertification Day and involvement in activities dedicated to this day is a unique opportunity to remind everyone that the fight against desertification is possible and its elimination is achievable. The key to achieving this goal is to strengthen community engagement and collaboration at all levels.

Create your own one-of-a-kind poster and send it to us to share your ideas on how to combat desertification and land degradation.

The poster is open to anyone who:
Is Interested in environmental issues
Recognizes the severity of the problem of land degradation and desertification in Georgia.
Thinks that (He or She) is to offer their  own different visions and ways to solve these problems.

The poster must meet the following requirements:
A1 format (59.4 cm x 84.1 cm) or larger (electronic version, PDF format).
The number of words used in the poster should not exceed 400.
The poster should not be just text and should be decorated with related photos, spreadsheets, diagrams, maps, and/or other visual aids.
The theme of the poster should be related to desertification and sustainable land management issues in Georgia.

The theme chosen for the poster may be related to one of the following:
Political, regulatory, and institutional reforms
Demonstrate the benefits of implementing best practices in sustainable land management.
Enhance knowledge about the principles of sustainable land management and its importance at the local level.

In order to eliminate the problem discussed in the poster, the author's recommendations or tips to achieve the goal should be presented.

The poster should not be merely descriptive  and should necessarily reflect the author's individual views and opinions with appropriate arguments.

The author is completely free to choose the scale and location of the problem discussed in the poster and to specify the topic (it is possible to discuss the problem of one village, region, or country as a whole, as well as any specific issues related to desertification of land management).

Participants should send posters by June 17 (electronically, in PDF format) to the following e-mail address: info@eiec.gov.ge

A lecture-seminar on the issues of desertification and sustainable land management in Georgia will be held for the authors of the 10 best posters. An exhibition of posters will be organized at the same event, and the 3 best posters will be revealed, the authors of which will be awarded special prizes!
