The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the LEPL Environmental Information and Education Centre celebrated the World Environmental Education Day through the presentation of the “environmental and agriculture programme for schools”. Textbooks for the new environment and agriculture programmes for schools have been tailored for early-stage teachers and entails crucial thematic that can be easily adapted to the pupils from the first to sixth-grade.
“October 14 is the World Environmental Protection Day and we are delighted to be celebrating this year at a presentation of the “environmental and agriculture programme for schools”. Such an impactful programme is also accompanied by the corresponding textbook, which entails eight modules and has been tailored to comply with the needs from the first to sixth-graders. Apart from serving as a top-notch resource for instruction on environmental protection and agriculture, it also portrays our consistent efforts. As a follow-up effort, environmental education programmes for schools have also been developed, which complements raising a generation with a wise set of values toward environmental protection. Moreover, it will be a generation with a professed interest to pursue their education into agriculture” – Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr Levan Davitashvili stated.
EU Ambassador Carl Hartzell also delivered a statement at the presentation of the new environment and agriculture school programmes and stressed out the importance of climate change and environmental education. Ambassador also stated that “awareness-raising and education are key to collective efforts, nonetheless, changes in the latter matters are of utmost importance. Brand new textbooks tailored to environmental issues are crucial for success”.
The textbook developed by the Centre is in full compliance with the requirements of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia and incumbent reforms and standards, respectively.
