An informational meeting for an increased public awareness

“Enabling Implementation of Forest Sector Reform in Georgia to Reduce GHG Emissions from Forest Degradation” is the project, which enjoyed wider discussion at the Dedoplistskaro municipality. The latter initiative aims at promoting market development for energy efficient (EE) and alternative fuels (AF) to address main driver of Georgia’s forest degradation, and improving local dwellers’ access to forest resources. The respective discussion was hosted by the Environmental Information and Education Centre (EIEC) under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia (MEPA).

“Successful implementation of the project vastly derives from a swift coordination of the participatory state agencies and meaningful engagement of local self-governing bodies. 7-year project will span through Dedoplistskaro, Telavi, Akhmeta, Kvareli, Chokhatauri, Lanchkhuti, Ozurgeti and Tianeti municipalities. We aim at consistent transition to sustainable forest management, promote alternative fuels, advance oversight, and improve local dwellers’ sustainable access to forest resources, which will result into mitigating climate change” – Deputy Minister, Mr Iuri Nozadze stated.

Apart from the MEPA, the discussion enjoyed presence of Dedoplistskaro Mayor and representatives of the Dedoplistskaro municipality.

The project "Enabling Implementation of Forest Sector Reform in Georgia to Reduce GHG Emissions from Forest Degradation," was funded by the Green Climate Fund on August 19, 2020, amounting into 33 million Euros. Upon supporting application of sustainable forest management practices, the project will result into the development of a new forest code.
