"Environmental Democracy-Human Rights and Duties." Trainings for Shida Kartli and Samtskhe-Javakheti Representatives

The LEPL EIEC of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia continues the information campaign on the topic "Environmental Democracy-Human Rights and Duties."

A training session was organised in Borjomi as part of the campaign, and it was attended by representatives from the  Shida Kartli and Samtskhe-Javakheti municipalities' public, local, non-governmental, and media sectors. The participants learned about the relevance of human environmental rights and duties, as well as access to environmental information, in order to fulfil their commitments under the Aarhus Convention.

The goal of this training is to support the government   to meet its commitments under the Aarhus Convention. The Aarhus Convention, to which Georgia signed in 2001, requires signatory states to provide access to environmental information, public participation in decision-making, and access to justice.

The EIEC will hold training on environmental human rights and responsibilities with representatives of municipalities in all parts of Georgia until the end of 2019.
