The EIEC of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) organised a youth contest called "Protect the Ozone Layer-Protect Life on Earth."

Thirty-five schoolchildren participated in the contest, and four selected participants from Akhalgori, Kvemo Alvani, Rustavi, and Tbilisi were awarded prizes for the best essays on the ozone layer and video tutorials on "Atmospheric Air Protection."

"The young citizens of our country expect us to leave the green and safe world." "Georgia has made significant progress in removing ozone-depleting substances, but in the future we must pay more attention to environmental education, the introduction of a green lifestyle, and the introduction of sustainable production and consumption practices," said Tamar Aladashvili, director of the EIEC.

Louise Winton, UNDP Resident Representative in Georgia, also attended the award ceremony. "The enthusiasm of young people for the protection of our planet has made a great impression on me. The participants in the competition are looking for their own solutions to the issues of green lifestyles and sustainable consumption. "I am confident that each of them will have something to say to their family, friends, and the community as a whole," said Louise Winton.

The youth contest was part of the EIEC and the United Nations Development Programme's information campaign, which began on September 16, 2019, International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer. As part of the campaign, information meetings and seminars were held in September and October, with more than 150 schoolchildren participating. As a result of interesting and informative meetings, 35 tenth-graders decided to participate in an essay and video contest and have their say in defending the ozone layer.
