Students of "School of Eco leaders" met with Nino Tandilashvili, Deputy Minister of MEPA

Within the educational program “Eco Leaders School” of LEPL Environmental Information and Education Centre (EIEC) of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia (MEPA), students met with Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Ms. Nino Tandilashvili.

The Deputy Minister informed students about the ongoing environmental reforms, projects and legislative initiatives in the country. The participants of the "School of Eco leaders" were given the opportunity to get comprehensive answers to their interesting questions. Representatives of the environmental training program were interested in both modern approaches of waste management and the new forest code, as well as issues of environmental impact assessment system, air quality and biodiversity conservation topic.

After the meeting, the students of the School of Eco leaders, in the Laboratory of Air pollution, Water and Soil Analysis of the National Environment Agency, performed chemical analysis to determine the quality of water, and participated in the process of identifying macroinvertebrates. Also they learned about the program for monitoring of air and soil.

"School of Eco leaders" is an educational package (curriculum), which is developed by the Environmental Information and Education Centre. Mentioned package aims to teach environmental issues to the younger generation and raise their awareness in that direction. The seminars provide young people with knowledge on current and interesting environmental issues, about both theoretical and practical aspects.

Graduating students from all regions of Georgia, who took part in a two-stage competition and were selected as the winning eco leaders of the project, participated in the "School of Eco leaders".

The program was implemented for the first time this year and will be held annually.
