LEPL Environmental Information and Education Centre (EIEC) of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia (MEPA) has organized trainings on medical first aid, for guides, rangers and visitor-service specialists of the administration staff of Martvili and Okatse Canyons.
The training course covered timely provision of required medical first aid in various emergency situations and had been developed according to the most up-to date international standards.
Training conducted by Mr. Konstantine Chutkerashvili, who is Director of the Anatomical Research Center at Tbilisi State Medical University and a certified trainer in neurosurgery and First Aid. The course provided both, theoretical and practical training in multifunctional training mannequins and simulators. The course also focused on the rangers’ work specific issues and covered provision of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and hemostasis in the field conditions, immediate assistance in case of craniospinal injuries, insect and reptile stings and bites and safe transportation.
Within the training course, which was held for guides, rangers and visitor-service specialists of Imereti Caves Protected Areas - Sataplia and Prometheus, as well as Martvili and Okatse Canyons administrations, a total of 60 staff members were trained. The aim of the training was to strengthen the capacity of the protected areas representatives in the direction of first aid. Aforementioned training is important for increasing the qualification of the staff and therefore ensuring the safety of the visitors. It is worth mention, number of visitors of the protected areas reached 1,200,000 last year.
One of the main direction of the LEPL Environmental Information and Education Centre (EIEC) is to strengthen the capacity of the staff of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia (MEPA), also to improve their qualifications and retrain them in various fields, which will contribute to the successful performance of their activities and duties.
