Training on refrigeration equipment and air conditioning

Within the activities supporting the fulfilment of the Montreal Protocol, the Environmental Information and Education Centre (EIEC) of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia provides a training course for certified technicians in the refrigeration equipment and air conditioning sector.

The training was opened by the Deputy Director of EIEC Ms Ekaterine Bendeliani who spoke about a permanent update of the processes in this sector that means to train professionals as it is their qualification main to reduce ozone-depleting substances and fluorinated greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

For the training course, 20 participants have been selected from those certified technicians who are allowed to work on refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and heat pumps. Training included both theoretical and practical exercises.

Implementation of such training contributes to raising awareness and qualification of technicians and is important to decrease the consumption of substances harmful to the environment.

Since 1 January 2018, permit to work on the equipment working on ozone-depleting substances is given solely for technicians certified according to the Georgian legislation.
Since 1 January 2019, the obligation of getting certified is applied for technicians working on air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and heats pumps consuming less than 3 kg refrigerants.

The certification is provided by only EIEC. From 2018 until today, EIEC provided 133 technicians with certificates.
