Information meetings were held in 7 target municipalities: Lagodekhi, Akhmeta, Telavi, Gori, Kobuleti, Senaki, and Abasha within the framework of the project "Climate Change Driven Disaster in Georgia " organised by the Eiec of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture.
A UNDP representative and project experts briefed the participants on the environmental and social management plans and the engineering designs for the infrastructure projects to be implemented. The meetings were attended by representatives of local mayors, city councils, and community-based organisations.
The total budget of the project is 74 million USD and its implementation will last for 7 years. The project aims to reduce the risk of climate change-related disasters, develop an early warning system, and introduce an effective national multi-factor threat management system that provides better protection for floods, high water, droughts, and other climate threats to 1.7 million people in Georgia. At this stage, the 10 most vulnerable municipalities have been selected for the project.
