Elaboration of the Water Information System in Georgia

The representatives of relevant services of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia work on the development of the Water Information System of Georgia. The Water Information System is being developed within the framework of the implementation of the principles and practices of the Shared Environmental Information System in the Eastern Partnership countries (ENI SEIS II East) with the financial and technical support of the European Environmental Agency.

The Water Information System of Georgia will contribute to the implementation of the water recourses integrated management. The functions and design of the Water System of Georgia are analogical to the Water Information System of Europe (WISE). In the system, it will be possible to have access to the water-related national policy, legislation and information on other principal issues, quantitative and qualitative data on water resources and maps. Georgian citizens will be able to get water resources-related information and also, to compare national rates to the rates of the European Union member countries.

The Georgian Water Information System will be accessible to the public until the end of 2020. To get informed about the skills needed for managing the water information systems, a two-day training course for Georgian experts has been held with the support of the European Environmental Agency.

The responsible entity to the management of the Georgian Water Information System will be the Environmental Information and Education Centre of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.
