A working meeting was held with the representatives of community organisations

The Eiec of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture held working meetings with representatives of community organisations within the framework of the project "Reducing the Risk of Disasters Caused by Climate Change in Georgia."

The meeting was opened by Tamar Aladashvili, Director of the Eiec of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, and Nino Antadze, Head of the UNDP Environment and Energy Department.

Community-based disaster risk management is one of the top priorities in mitigating the risks posed by climate change, so it is important to strengthen the capacity of community organisations and raise their awareness. In this regard, the Eiec, with the support of the United Nations Development Program, announced a contest titled "Create a safe community." The competition will promote the interest of the representatives of community organisations and their involvement in the disaster risk reduction process, "-said Tamar Aladashvili.

The role and engagement of the community in disaster risk reduction were explored by project specialists and representatives from community groups.

The purpose of the meeting is to facilitate the involvement of community organisations in the management of natural hazards. Participants received information on how to set up a rapid response team properly, how to assess risks, and develop a rapid response plan. Representatives of 10 target municipalities (Gori, Telavi, Akhmeta, Sighnaghi, Lagodekhi, Samtredia, Abasha, Senaki, Khobi, Kobuleti) attended the working meeting.

The ClimateDriven Disaster Risk Reduction Program in Georgia is funded by the Government of Georgia, the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Government of Switzerland, and the Government of Sweden, and is implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
