Integrating environmental and agricultural matters into education system

Educators and teachers of civic education, biology and geography of the Akhmeta municipality, as well as specialists working on pre-school establishments have been on board of training efforts deployed by the LEPL Environmental Information and Education Center (EIEC) under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia (MEPA).

The trainings on “integrating environmental and agricultural issues into educational processes” aspire at raising awareness among the teachers and fostering harmonization of the environmental and agricultural issues into curricula.

Representatives of the EIEC have professed high interest into discussing the matter of soil degradation of the Akhmeta municipality and harmful practice of burning fields. Apart from scrutinizing agricultural matters, trainers also emphasized on environmental matters, such as quality of atmospheric air at villages and causes for polluting the latter, which features a negative practice of burning leafs, loss of biological diversity and climate change. Theoretical aspects have been combined with the practical input, which entailed engaging educators and teachers into discussions; attendees have been provided with informational leaflets and other educational materials, which they can utilize for their upcoming activities.

The EIEC has planned trainings for the Gardabani municipality’s public schools and pre-school educational institutions and their educations, who will be engaged into trainings on environmental and agricultural issues. A total number of 200 teachers will be involved into the efforts. The second phase of the efforts aspires to engage these teachers/educators into a contest announced by the EIEC and complement the planning process of various environmental activities for pupils/children.
