The LEPL Environmental Information and Education Center (EIEC) under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia (MEPA) hosted a meeting at the Telavi municipality on reducing the risk of climate-driven disasters in Georgia.
The meeting aspired at raising awareness among the local dwellers due to priority of the project to complement capacity building of local dwellers toward risk of climate-driven disasters.
The meeting was supported by the joint efforts of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Government of Georgia and the Government of Sweden. The project aspires to adopt a proactive integrated climate risk management (CRM) approach centered on risk reduction, prevention, and preparedness through the establishment of a multi-hazard early warning system, as well as various infrastructural and educational activities.
Director of the EIEC delivered opening remarks and briefed on aspirations of the project and vital role of local communities’ engagement for risks prevention of disasters as an aftermath of climate change.
Informational meetings will entail each and every vulnerable municipality and will engage representatives of local authorities, local NGOs, community organizations, media, educational institutions, as well as pupils and students.
The project was launched in 2019 and will be implemented throughout the next 7 years.
