An International Letter Writing Contest

For the ninth time, the Universal Postal Union International Letter Writing Contest will be held in Georgia.

For the ninth time, the Universal Postal Union International Writing Contest will be held in Georgia, organised by the Georgian Post with the support of the ministries of education and science, environmental protection and agriculture, and the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.

The International Postal Union International Letter Writing Contest was founded in 1971 at the World Postal Union Tokyo Congress. National operators are running the competition in all 192 World Postal Union member countries. Every year, millions of teens from all around the world compete in the competition. The winners, who are from various countries, will compete at an international level. The winning country will be announced by the "World Postal Union" judges.

All participants will be rewarded. The top three will be revealed, and the work of the first place winner will be sent to the "World Postal Union" and be included in the international contest program.

"Write a letter to an influential person on why and how to take action on climate change," is the contest's theme for 2022. The contest's goal is to popularise letter writing as a tradition in the age of contemporary technologies.

The award ceremony for the author of the World Post Union International Contest will take place on October 9, 2022, International Post Day, in Bern, Switzerland.

The competition is available to people aged 9 to 15. In the work, the following requirements must be taken into account:

  • The letter shape must be kept on the paper at all times. A greeting must be included at the beginning of the letter.
  • It is mandatory that the number of words in the letter does not exceed 1000 units.
  • The letter can be written in Georgian, Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, Russian, or Spanish.
  • Both the manuscript and its electronic form must be submitted by the participant. Send the electronic version as well as the participant's contact information (name, surname, age, phone number, and address) to letter@gpost.ge.
  • The candidate will be registered in the contest only after submitting the work via email. The participant must submit the original paper no later than 5 working days after receiving the electronic version of the letter; otherwise, the candidate will be automatically removed from the competition.
  • The applicant is obliged to submit the paper in a sealed envelope and the following inscription must be placed on the envelope: "International Letter Writing Competition 2022". It is forbidden to write any other name, surname, nickname, conditional name, identification mark, and/or any symbol.
  • The contestant can use the services of a nearby postal service centre throughout Georgia or place the paper in the mailbox of the Georgian Post. The service is free.
  • After completing the electronic registration, the applicant is obliged to use the postal service within 5 days to send the original of the paper (preferably a manuscript).·           
  • In accordance with the contest, the work must be done by the student and not by a parent, teacher, or other third party.
  • The author of the letter agrees that the Georgian Post: will handle his personal information in accordance with the law.
  • Without additional notice or approval from the letter's author, will publish the contents of the letter to the public.

    Date of receipt of work: March 2, 2022.

    The deadline for submitting work to postal service centres and the mail is April 6, 2022.
