The 18th of March is International Waste Recycling Day

The 18th of March is International Waste Recycling Day!

Since 2018, International Waste Recycling Day has been celebrated around the world, with the goal of drawing global attention to the urgent need to implement modern waste management standards.

The "Waste Management Code," which is based on the requirements of the directives and regulations set forth in the Association Agreement between Georgia and the European Union, came into effect on January 15, 2015.

The Code provides for the gradual implementation of modern waste collection and treatment systems, including hazardous, non-hazardous, and inert waste. In addition, modern landfills should be built in stages, current waste recycling technologies should be implemented, and "extended producer commitment" should be implemented, among other things.

According to the Waste Management Code, up to 20 technical regulations have been adopted in the country so far.
