Information meetings on the principles of environmental democracy were held.
The Westminster Democracy Fund, which is sponsored by the UK government, supports the Environmental Democracy Program (WFD).The EIEC of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia is involved in the local self-awareness component within the program.
During the meetings, participants discussed the importance of citizen involvement in environmental protection at the local level, challenges related to environmental protection and climate change, the rights and responsibilities of municipalities in the development of environmental democracy and law enforcement.
Online information meetings with representatives from the Chokhatauri, Keda, and Gori Municipal Councils were held in the first stage, followed by face-to-face working meetings with the Ministry, the Centre, and the National Association of Local Self-Government (NALAG).
It is critical to establish a civil society that is conscious of its environmental rights and duties in order to meet the major difficulties that the environment faces. In this regard, improving public access to environmental information and increasing public participation in decision-making in this area are critical for achieving environmental democracy.
