With its own resources, Telavi Public School No. 7 was able to reduce disaster risks

We'd like to tell you about another school that was successful in reducing disaster risks by using its own resources.

Telavi 7th Public School was founded in 1978. The school now has 604 students. The majority of students participate in a variety of essential activities, with the eco-club near the school standing out. In 2008, the club was founded. For more than ten years, the club's members have been organising interesting and useful events.

Due to its location, the school has endured numerous natural disasters. The school director  Mrs. Maia Silagadze recalls:  "2012 turned out to be difficult for Telavi. High winds severely damaged the municipality, including our school. This event once again showed the need for our activation. "

One of the most important activities in terms of disaster risk reduction was implemented by the school in 2021. The school participated in the contest "Learn in a Safe Environment," announced by the EIEC. The project, entitled "Reducing the risks caused by strong winds in school", won the third prize. With the funding received from the contest, a windbreak was made on the roof of the school building.

"Within the scope of this project, we have completed important activities. The belt constructed on the roof of the school building will protect the roof from damage during high winds. "Rain will also be unable to enter the roof," said Nana Kibishauri, a schoolteacher.
