The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was updated and a new report was presented

Georgia's Second Biennial Update Report to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is presented.

►The presentation of the second biannual meeting dedicated to the United Nations Framework Convention on ClimateChange was welcomed by Nino Tandilashvili, deputy minister of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

►The UN Development Program (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) were thanked for their active support and cooperation, and the Deputy Minister emphasised the importance of the document.

Reporting on the UN Convention is important for pursuing national climate change policies.  We are working hard to meet all of the Paris Agreement's and other international responsibilities, including the Association Agreement, on a timely and complete basis. Climate change is a confirmed fact, and each country's responsible approach toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions is the most critical issue, as Nino Tandilashvili stated.

Anna Chernishova, The Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Georgia, addressed the participants of the event.

"The year 2019 is a key year in the implementation of the Paris Agreement, as nations around the world must renew their national promises to decrease greenhouse gas emissions under the agreement. "Georgia is ready to make ambitious plans in this regard and take further measures toward the development of a green economy, with UN Development Program assistance," Anna Chernishova said.

During the presentation, current information and recommendations on the description of the national system of greenhouse gas emission sources and their measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) were provided during the review of the  newest biennial report.

Georgia's challenges in mitigating and responding to climate change were also discussed in the report. Improved legislation, the need for finance, the formation of institutional procedures, higher-quality research, and the deployment of climate-friendly technologies were all on the agenda.

Representatives from the Ministry's relevant agencies, international partner organisations, experts in the field, and other stakeholders attended the event.
