Reducing the risk of climate-driven disasters in Georgia

Representatives of the Swedish Embassy and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) visited Senaki Municipality as part of the project "Reducing the Risk of Climate-Driven Disasters in Georgia," inspected flood protection infrastructure, and attended training for school children.

The Deputy Ambassador of Sweden and Head of Development and Cooperation at the Swedish Embassy, Eric Iles; The Program Officer of the Swedish Embassy, Khatuna Zaldastanishvili; and Nino Antadze, UNDP Environment, and Energy Officer, inspected the ongoing work and construction of a protective structure on the 2,180-meter section of the Tsivi River.

After the visit to the infrastructure works, a meeting was held at the Senaki Municipality Hall, where the local coordinator of the EIEC informed about the awareness-raising activities implemented and planned within the project. Also, the representative of the Environmental Ecological Association ("DEA") provided information on the situation in Senaki Municipality.

After the meeting, training on climate-driven disaster risk reduction was held at St. Alex Shushania Orthodox School Gymnasium for students in VIII-IX grades, with the aim of raising students' environmental awareness.
