Training on sustainable public procurement was held

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Solomon Pavliashvili, opened the training on the implementation of sustainable public procurement in Georgia with a welcoming speech.

Sustainable public procurement involves the consideration of environmental, social, and economic issues in the implementation of public procurement. The Sustainable Public Procurement approach focuses on issues such as green, energy-efficient public procurement, social and labor rights, and the interests of people with disabilities

"Familiarization with the methodology of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) is crucial to improving the sustainable public procurement process in public agencies. "We need to develop an appropriate legal framework that will facilitate the correct and successful implementation of sustainable public procurement approaches," Solomon Pavliashvili said.

Within the framework of the training, the representatives of the business sector got acquainted with the essence of sustainable public procurement and its benefits, the steps taken to implement it, and the draft legal provisions prepared in this direction.

The training was funded by the EU4Environment program, in close cooperation with the State Procurement Agency and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). It should be noted that the project aims to promote the introduction of sustainable public procurement approaches and regulations in Georgia as well as strengthen the capacity of government agencies and the private sector to effectively implement and operate sustainable public procurement. The training was led by Alexander Daras, Head of the EU Delegation to Georgia; Rie Tsutsum, UNDP Regional Coordinator for Climate Change and Resource Efficiency, Tamar Aladashvili EIEC Director, senior government officials, and business representatives.
