A contest for regional media representatives

A contest for regional media representatives

The EIEC, within the framework of the project "Reducing the risks of climate-driven  disasters in Georgia",  announces a contest for regional media representatives.

Any regional media representative who prepares contest materials on the topic of reducing the risks of climate-driven disasters, can take part in the contest. In addition, it is possible to submit team contest work. Authors of the best TV, radio, and print/online articles will be awarded special prizes, and all participants will be given a certificate of participation.

Applications and contest work can be submitted until September 15.

The purpose of the contest is to strengthen the role of the media in working on the topic of reducing the risk of climate-driven disasters, to raise public awareness, and provide information on reducing the risks of climate-driven disasters in Georgia as well as in state policy in this direction.

Only one winner from each of the following categories will be awarded:

  • The best analytical-cognitive article in print media;
  • The best analytical-cognitive articles in the online media 
  • The most analytical-cognitive television story;
  • analytical-cognitive radio story.

The winning papers will be published on the web and Facebook pages of the EIEC.

Submission requirements for competitive works:

  • Only work submitted with a completed application form will be considered for the contest.
  • In the case of submitting a team contest work, it is mandatory to indicate the names and surnames of all co-authors in the application form. Their number should not exceed three people.
  • If plagiarism is detected, the contestant will be removed from the selection round.

Criteria:
1. Information on the risk of climate-driven disasters  should be provided to the public in an efficient way;
2. Any of the project's identified hazards (hail, strong wind, landslide, mudslide, avalanche, drought, flood) should be impacted.
3. The mentioned material should be aimed at raising awareness among the residents of a specific municipality.
4. It is desirable that the materials of the contest should include the following: the state policy in Georgia on reducing the risks of climate-driven disasters.
5. The applicant must submit the text of the printed/online article in PDF format (technical characteristics: the text must be in Georgian, font-based, size 12, spacing between lines 1.5, and the volume of the text must not exceed 1,000 words);
6. Prior to the contest announcement, the applicant may submit or create new material on the topic of reducing the risks of climate-driven disasters caused by climate change.
7. The unique narrative style, the journalist's creativity, and the veracity of the supplied information will all be taken into consideration.
8. The applicant must follow journalistic ethics standards.
9. clearly define a specific problem within the context of the overall topic (problem identification);
10. Relevance of the problem;
11. Reliability of the used topic and use of the primary source.

An impartial jury will evaluate the prepared contest work. According to the rules of the contest's transparency and integrity, the names of the jury members won't be made public until after the winners have been announced.
