The EIEC's "School of Ecoleaders" programme has completed its 2022 academic year. Solomon Pavliashvili, Georgia's deputy minister of agriculture and environmental protection, presented certificates to the students. The young people received knowledge from the deputy minister on topics that interested them following the online seminars and cognitive tours.
"The School of Ecoleaders is a very interesting format for young people, which gives them the opportunity to gain important knowledge and information about environmental issues. We discussed with the students the issues of biodiversity, protected areas, and forest management. This school motivates them to continue their studies in environmental directions in the future. By promoting education at an early age, we improve the attitudes of young people towards the environment. "Our goal is the heightened awareness of future generations," said Solomon Pavliashvili.
The "School of Ecoleaders" is a training programme developed by the EIEC, the purpose of which is to teach environmental issues to the younger generation and raise their awareness in this direction. For two months, students were given lectures by representatives of the EIEC and invited specialists.
As part of the training program, young people learned about where and when the environmental movement was formed; they learned about environmental rights; the importance of waste management and existing best practices, the importance of biodiversity and protected areas, the impact of climate change, and the role of environmental education and public relations in protecting the environment.
The project was implemented throughout the country. School students from the ninth to the twelfth grade took part in it. The participants were selected based on the contest.
The educational programme "Ecoleaders School," developed by the EIEC for students interested in environmental topics, will be held every year.
