A working meeting was conducted for representatives of non-governmental and community organisations on the topic of reducing the risk of climate-driven disasters. The working meeting was organised by the EIEC of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, on the topic of reducing the risk of climate -driven disasters for local non governmental representatives and community organisations.
The working meeting was opened by the Deputy Director of the EIEC Ekaterine Bendeliani.
The meeting on the project ‘’Reducing the Risk of Climate-Driven Disasters in Georgia'’ was attended by representatives from 10 targeted municipalities (Gori, Telavi, Akhmeta, Sighnaghi, Lagodekhi, Abasha, Senaki,Khobi, Qobuleti)
‘’Full communication with the targeted audience in selected municipalities and assuring their involvement in the process are the key factors for the project's effective execution, for which the EIEC arranged a number of meetings and forums. The main purpose of the mentioned meetings is to provide comprehensive information to the interested society about the progress of the project, dialogue with the interested public and discuss future cooperation. Participation of local-non -governmental and community organisations in the ‘’create a safe community’’ contest, discussion of project ideas and development of advocacy plans is another very important part of the project’’ said Ekaterine Bendeliani.
Together with the project experts the meeting attendees discussed the advantages and difficulties of participatory project planning, the development of project ideas and strategies for advocacy campaigns. At the meeting was also discussed the role of local self-government and civil society in the process of reducing the risk of climate-driven disasters.
The program ‘’Reducing the risk of climate driven disasters in Georgia’’ is funded by the Government of Georgia, the Green Climate Fund ( GCF) , the Government of Switzerland and Sweden. Projects implementation is ensured by the United Nations of Development Program (UNDP).
