The EIEC under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia has organised and conducted the meeting with students at Ilia University.
The meeting was opened by Tamar Aladashvili, the EIEC Director, and by the Dean of the faculty of Natural Sciences and Medicine, Elene Zhuravliova.
Tamar Aladashvili introduced the centre's activities to students and paid special attention to the ‘’Green Scholarships’’ program, which gives an opportunity to excellent students of higher education and science, in the fields of environmental science, ecology, natural environment and wildlife, geology, hydrology, environmental protection technology, an opportunity to undergo an internship and to be financed with a 1500 lari scholarship.
At the meeting, the responsible people on several topics, from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, introduced information to students about ambient air quality, biodiversity, and waste management challenges and conditions.
The meeting was attended by undergraduate and graduate students from the faculty of Natural Sciences and Medicine as well as other students interested in environmental topics.
The meeting was held with the support of theUnited Development Program (UNDP) Sweden Government and with the initiative of ‘’Governance Reform Fund’’ (GRF) .
The meeting with students was conducted within the framework of the World Day of Environmental Education. The celebration of the World Day of Environmental Education is related to the first intergovernmental conference held on October 14-26, 1977 in Tbilisi. The "Tbilisi Declaration", that is the first and most important policy document in the field of environmental education, was adopted at the conference.
