A meeting on the Green Economy and Sustainable Public Procurement was held

Solomon Pavliashvili, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia met with Annie Claire Howard, Director of Procurement at the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).Solomon Pavliashvili informed the participants of the meeting about the current situation of a green economy and sustainable public procurement in Georgia, as well as the state of fulfilment of obligations undertaken within the agenda of association with the European Union.It is worth noting that the Association Agreement with the European Union envisages the introduction of a sustainable public procurement approach, encouraging eco-labeling and eco-innovations.

The representatives of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) evaluated positively the activities carried out in Georgia regarding sustainable public procurement, which, in the future, will contribute to the introduction of the mentioned approach.

The activities of the EU4Environment program, funded by the European Union, are carried out by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), which, in cooperation with the EIEC and the State Procurement Agency, actively works to introduce and promote sustainable public procurement.These measures include improving legislation to introduce sustainable public procurement provisions.The new public procurement draft law that the Georgian Parliament is debating has provisions for sustainable public procurement.

Director of EIEC Tamar Aladashvili and Deputy Chairman of State Procurement Agency Kakha Demetrashvili attended the meeting.
