Meetings were held in municipalities on sustainable public procurement

The representatives from several municipalities in the Kakheti, Guria, and Mtskheta-Mtianeti regions discussed the topics of sustainable public procurement. The participants got acquainted with the new approaches offered by the Georgian legislation about "sustainable public procurement" and with the concept of sustainable public procurement.

Sustainable public procurement involves taking environmental, social, and economic issues into account when carrying out public procurement. A sustainable public procurement approach focuses on issues such as green, energy-efficient public procurement, social and labour rights, and the interests of persons with disabilities.

The mentioned meetings were attended by representatives of municipalities, which will be actively involved in the process of introducing sustainable public procurement.

The Association Agreement with the European Union envisages the introduction of a sustainable public procurement approach and the transition to the principles of a green economy.

Meetings in municipalities were held within the EU4Environment program, funded by the European Union. The activities of the mentioned program are implemented by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). The United Nations Environment Program, in cooperation with the EIEC and the State Procurement Agency, is actively working to introduce and promote sustainable public procurement. These measures include improving legislation to introduce sustainable public procurement provisions.
