The public hearings will be held on the ‘’Green Book on climate change law

At the meeting held by the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee in the Parliament of Georgia, the "Green Book" created for the Climate Change Law and the plan for holding public consultations were presented.

The "Green Book" of the Climate Change Law includes the international obligations undertaken by Georgia, the existing national policy, the analysis of the impact of climate change on Georgia, future risks, and international examples of climate law.

After the opinions are received within the public consultations, the "White Book" of the Climate Change Law will be developed, which will reflect the main principles of the Climate Change Law of Georgia.

At the meeting held in the Parliament of Georgia, the director of EIEC, Tamar Aladashvili, presented the national consultation plan for the "Green Book" and noted that the maximum involvement of the population in the process of drafting the law is of the utmost importance. Public discussions of the mentioned document will be held in Tbilisi, Kutaisi, and Telavi.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Ministers of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Nino Tandilashvili and Solomon Pavliashvili; Chairman of the Environment Protection and Natural Resources Committee, Maya Bitadze; Great Britain Ambassador Mark Clayton; Head of Representation of the Westminster Democracy Fund in Georgia, Lasha Nakashidze; and representatives of non-governmental organisations and the diplomatic corps.

The Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, in cooperation with the EIEC and with the support of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) and the United Kingdom, is working on the creation of the Climate Change Law of Georgia.
