It is critical to provide students with the opportunity to gain knowledge and education in the field of environment, as well as to learn important professions such as geology, hydrology, and ecology. We actively cooperate with the Ministry of Education, Higher Education Institutions, implementing joint projects, encouraging the youth to be interested in mentioned professions, and then to serve their country.’’ Said the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Otar Shamugia at the Green Scholarship event’’.
In the field of the environment, 32 students from 8 universities have been awarded a 1500 lari scholarship. The "Green Scholarship" program, implemented by the EIEC under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, supports the popularisation of environmental deficit professions and encourages excellent students. Within the program, students will have the opportunity to receive practical experience in relevant agencies.
As the resident representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Georgia, Nick Beresford noted at the event that, considering the current reality, the scientific direction in the field of environmental protection is highly relevant, and such support from the government is emphatically welcome.
It should be noted that the scholarships were received by students of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Ilia State University, Georgia Technical University, Georgian Institute of Public Affairs, Akaki Tsereteli State University, Jacob Gogebashvili Telavi State University, Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, and Sokhumi State University.
The scholarships apply to the following master’s programs: physical geography and sustainable development of the environment, integrative management of water resources (hydrology) and geology, the management of energy and mineral resources and sustainable development, environment protection and engineering ecology, ecology, constructive geography and environment protection, environmental management, and policy.
The award ceremony was attended by Maya Bitadze, Chairman of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee of the Parliament of Georgia. Solomon Pavliashvili and Nino Tandilashvili, Deputy Ministers of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia; Nunu Mickevichi, Deputy Minister of Education and Science; Khatuna Zaldastanishvili, Program Officer of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA); Environmental Information; and Director of the Education Center Tamar Aladashvili, representatives of universities, were present.
The Green Scholarship is implemented by the EIEC under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, by United National Development Program ( UNDP) Within the large-scale initiative "Reducing the risk of climate-driven disasters in Georgia," with the support of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the governments of Georgia, Sweden, and Switzerland.
