June 2 is the day of protection of Mtkvari. On this day, representatives of the Eiec of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, met with students from grades V–VI of Tbilisi Public School No. 69 and trained them on the importance of water resources and the actions needed to protect them. Students heard important information about the Mtkvari as a transboundary river and its monitoring.
The discussion continued in a question-and-answer format, with the students receiving detailed responses to the queries that piqued their interest.
Mtkvari Protection Day was established in 1999 and is celebrated simultaneously in Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Mtkvari is the most important river in Georgia. The total length of the river is 1515 kilometres. The length of the Mtkvari on the territory of Georgia is 400 kilometres.
