Training on the environmental responsibility system was held for business sector representatives and interested young people. At the training, the participants got acquainted with the law of Georgia on environmental responsibility, and the procedures related to its implementation, and discussed practical examples.
The meeting was opened by EIEC Director Tamar Aladashvili.
"The law on environmental responsibility provides certain obligations for representatives of the private sector. We give interested parties the chance to learn in-depth details about the duties that are governed by law and the questions that are of interest to them during the aforementioned training, and for young people, we support them to increase their employment opportunities in this area, said Tamar Aladashvili.
The training was conducted by representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, who directly took part in the development of the law and are involved in its enforcement.
In Georgia, from 2021, the law on environmental responsibility was approved, which is based on the "polluter pays" principle widespread in Europe: in case of significant damage to the environment, the business or enterprise is obliged to restore the environment to its original state and provide the necessary financial resources for this.
The training is organised by the EIEC within the ongoing project "Governance Reform Fund" with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Sweden.
