Winners of the "Green Award 2023" were announced

The Centre for Environmental Information and Education has revealed the winners of its "Green Award" contest. Teachers and educators from all over Georgia took part in the contest.

The "Green Award: Preschool Environmental Education 2023" was given to Natia Mumladze, a kindergarten teacher in Tbilisi, and the "Green Award Environmental and Agricultural Education at School 2023" was given to Asmat Lezhava, a biology and natural science instructor in Gori Municipality's N12 Public School.

The winners received prizes from Otar Shamugia, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.

"One of the main ways to deal with modern challenges is education. The role of teachers on this path is very important, and I would like to thank you for that. Today's event was planned as part of the International Day of Environment Protection, which the world celebrates on June 5. Community cohesion is crucial for a healthy ecosystem. We have fascinating programmes in this area, such as the recently launched "Forest Friend" platform, which aims to include as many people as possible in efforts to restore, maintain, and protect forests.

The role of the state in taking care of the environment is very important. In recent years, we have carried out concrete reforms to protect the air, water, and soil from pollution. Important events will be implemented in the future as well. All reforms are the result of joint efforts.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Environmental Information and Education Centre on its 10th anniversary. The centre works to raise awareness by informing the public about environmental and agricultural challenges. The "Green Award" competition was started on the centre's initiative,’’ Otar Shamugia said at the award ceremony.

The Environmental Information and Education Centre has been conducting the "Green Award" contest since 2018. The objective of the contest is to acknowledge and encourage teachers and educators who actively apply the textbooks ``Environmental education before school" and "Environmental and agricultural education at School '' into the teaching process and support the advancement of environmental and agricultural education among young people.

Mzia Giorgobiani, the deputy minister of regional development and infrastructure, Berika Shukakidze, the director of the national centre for Teachers' professional development, and other guests attended the award ceremony.

At the event, the winners and selected participants of the competition commission were awarded special prizes.

The supporters of the "Green Award" contest are the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, the National Centre for Professional Development of Teachers, the Nursery Management Agency, the National Centre for Manuscripts, Tbilisi Zoo, the National Botanical Garden of Georgia, Akhmeta Municipality, the Green Movement of Georgia, CENN, Ekokhedva, the Nature Conservation Organisation "Sabuko," and Sulakauri Publishing House, Delphos, Carrefour, and Pharmadepo, which, within the framework of social responsibility, support environmental education and awareness-raising activities.
