A summary public consultation on the ‘’Green Book’’ climate change law was held

A summary public consultation on the ‘’Green Book’’ climate change law was held in Tbilisi. The "Green Book’ climate change law includes the international responsibilities undertaken by Georgia, existing national policy, an analysis of the climate change impact on Georgia, future risks, and international examples of climate change.

The Green Book’’ Georgian climate change law was developed by the committee on environmental protection and natural resources in cooperation with EIEC and with the support of Westminster Fund Democracy (WED) and the United Kingdom. 

The summary meeting of public consultation on the "Green Book’’ climate change law was attended by Maia Bitadze, the head of environmental protection and natural resources; the first Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Nino Tandilashvili; the rector of Ivane Javakhishvili University, Jaba Samushia; and the director of the Environmental Information and Education Centre (EIEC), Tamar Aladashvili. the head of Westminster Fund Democracy, Lasha Nakashidze, and the officer of the project of the Good Governance Fund (GGF), Nino Chiqvanaia.

The representatives of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), the education sector, students, and stakeholders took part in the consultation. For full involvement in the process, the meeting was held in a hybrid format.

Public consultations have been held in the cities of Kutaisi and Telavi. As outcomes are received within consultations, the ‘’White Book’’  climate change law will be developed and will reflect the main principles of Georgian climate change law.
