International Day for the Protection of the Ozone Layer

International Day for the Protection of the Ozone Layer

An information meeting for certified refrigeration technicians was held on the occasion of the International Day for the Protection of the Ozone Layer. Certification of refrigeration technicians is carried out by the Eiec of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture. Today, there are 156 certified refrigeration technicians in the country.

The issues of ozone protection and restoration were discussed at the meeting.

As stated previously, Georgia is meeting its duties under the Montreal Protocol.

Georgia stopped consuming the most dangerous ozone-depleting substances in 2008. By 2030, Georgia will finally stop consuming ozone-depleting substances.

In order to improve the border control of the import and export of ozone-depleting substances, customs officers and employees of the Department of Environmental Supervision are equipped with refrigerant identifiers, which help them manage their daily activities effectively.

The meeting was organised by the Eiec of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) within the framework of the "Support Program for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol in Georgia" project.
