An environmental information portal was developed in order to encourage active engagement of interested parties in the process of making environmental decisions

The presentation of the information portal ei.gov.ge  was conducted by the environmental information and education centre of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia. Solomon Pavliashvili, the deputy minister of environmental protection and Agriculture, opened the meeting.

„The goal of the Ministry is to implement such a technical instrument that will provide timely and unobstructed access to information and the efficient involvement of society at every stage of the decision-making process. The promotion of the dissemination of environmental information and the provision of public involvement in the decision-making process is the main way to increase public involvement in public involvement issues and to implement the main principles of the Aarhus Convention,’’ said Solomon Pavliashvili.

According to Georgia law, the "Environmental Assessment Code" and the "Environmental Liability Law, the environmental information portal delivers quick, clear information to the public to assist in decision-making.

The portal is created by the Environmental Information and Education Centre (EIEC) and National Environmental Agency, with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Sweden within the framework of "Strengthening of public participation mechanisms in environmental decision-making processes and promotion of environmental education".

The meeting was attended by Khatia Tsilosani, the first deputy chairman of the Environment Protection and Natural Resources Committee; Natia Gobejishvili, the environmental coordinator of the "Governance Reform Fund" project of the United Nations Development Programme in Georgia; Tamar Aladashvili, the director of the Environmental Information and Education Centre; Maya Beradze, the deputy head of the National Environment Agency; and representatives of non-governmental organisations.
