The training courses were organized by EIEC, the Rural Development Agency, and the Georgia Beekeepers Association.
To strengthen the beekeeper’s capacity and promote this field, the course covers four stages, within which farmers get acquainted both with traditional and contemporary methods.
In the third stage, the farmers were informed about the following topics: the safe use of bee smokers; the test for varroa, the analysis of the obtained outcome, choosing the measure/method against the pests, grouping the bees into families; hill and dale; the identification of the illness, using the method of Holst, honey pressing and storage conditions; Registration of the apiary and filling of the registration sheet.
Several beekeepers from different parts of Georgia attended the course. The instructors for the course are experts in their fields.
Within the first stage of the training, up to 1000 beekeepers were retrained, and in the second stage, 1105 beekeepers were retrained. Along with theoretical training, farmers were also given practical training on modern pest control methods and relevant environmental measures.
