The Environmental Information and Education Centre announces the school competition - "Learn in a safe environment".
The purpose of the contest is to promote the reduction of the impact of natural hazards caused by climate change at the local level, increase knowledge and awareness about climate-driven disasters, and strengthen community resilience with the maximum involvement of stakeholders.
The competition is announced within the program "Reducing the risk of climate-driven disasters in Georgia", which is funded by the Government of Georgia, the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the governments of Sweden (SIDA) and Switzerland (SDC), and is implemented with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The contest is open to schools in the program's 13 target municipalities (Gori, Telavi, Lagodekhi, Akhmeta, Sighnaghi, Samtredia, Abasha, Khobi, Senak, Kobuleti, Ozurgeti, Chokhatauri, and Lanchkhuti) The presented project must be related to one of the seven natural hazards provided by the program (flood, hail, mudslide, landslide, drought, strong wind, avalanche), which is a challenge for both the municipality and the community.
Within the contest, the participating public educational institution must present a project proposal that, as a result of its implementation, will ensure the strengthening of the school's resilience to disasters caused by natural hazards and the involvement of the local community.
The activity or activities that will be implemented with the monetary amount of the award provided by the contest must be specified in the proposal (the budget must also reflect those activities that do not require financial resources). The term of implementation of project activities should not exceed one year. The project application must be submitted by the school director.
The contest will be held in two stages:
Stage I: Selection of Applications
Stage II: Presentation of the Project Proposal
According to the results of both stages, a special commission will select two finalists. The winning school will be awarded $1,200, and the runner-up will be awarded $800.
