The EIEC introduces the community organization contest "Create a Safe Community" as part of the program - "Reducing the Risks of Climate-Driven Disasters in Georgia" with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The purpose of the competition is to raise awareness of climate change-induced disasters, promote community-based disaster risk management, and strengthen community resilience to disasters with maximum stakeholder involvement.
The submitted project must be related to one of the seven natural hazards specified by the program that is challenging for the municipality and the community(flood, hail, mudslide, landslide, drought, strong wind, avalanche),
Applicants must submit a complete project application to the EIEC no later than October 31, 2023.
Contest projects must be sent to info@eiec.gov.ge (please indicate in the subject line of the letter: "Create a safe community").

The applicant must submit the following documents to the centre:
• complete the project application (verified by the organization’s letterhead or stamp and the director's signature);
• a detailed and itemized budget (in Excel format);
• extract from the public register;
• A resume of all activities planned within the project;
• In the case of co-financing, the co-sponsor letter on official letterhead must be confirmed with a seal.
Only the applicant organization's work should be represented in the contest, As a result of plagiarism, the organization and project will be immediately disqualified from the contest.
The centre will use the information provided by the applicant only for the purpose of discussion and will not share it with outside persons or organizations, except in the cases stipulated by Georgia's legislation.
There will be two stages to the contest:
Stage I: selecting applications
II stages: presenting the project idea
The special commission will choose two winning community organisations, one from the municipalities of East Georgia and one from West Georgia, based on the outcomes of the two stages. Each will receive USD 4,000 to carry out the project.
Target municipalities: Lagodekhi, Sighnaghi, Akhmeta, Telavi, Gori, Samtredia, Abasha, Senak, Khobi, Chokhatauri, Ozurgeti, Lanchkhuti, and Kobuleti.
Deadline for submitting applications: October 31, 2023.
The project, "Reducing the risks of climate-driven disasters in Georgia," is financed by the Government of Georgia, the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the governments of Sweden (SIDA) and Switzerland (SDC), and its implementation is ensured by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
