To celebrate innovation and scientific day, the public lecture ’Bacteriophages, the Guarantor of a Healthy Ecosystem’’ was held.
The president of the Association for General and Applied Microbiology, Davit Phrangishvili, spoke about the role of bacteriophages in nature, their influence on microbial populations, and the practice of using bacteriophages in medicine.
In the panel discussion, the scientists spoke about the practical use of bacteriophages for strengthening agro-food sustainability.
Through this event, Georgia has joined the Science and Innovations Week of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation ( FAO) organized by the regional representatives of Europe and Central Asia.
Along with scientists and interested students, the lecture was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, and Agriculture of Georgia, FAO, and WHO Georgian Offices, French Ambassador to Georgia Sheraz Gasri, Chairman of the Agricultural Affairs Committee of the Georgian Parliament Nino Tsilosani, and the Rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Jaba Samushia.
The World Health Organisation (WHO), the Environmental Information and Education Centre, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), and the Association of General and Applied Microbiology of Georgia collaborated to organize the public lecture.
