An informational meeting with leaders of the educational sector was held in order to integrate climate change topics into the educational process

Solomon Pavliashvili, the Deputy Minister of the  Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, of Georgia, officially opened the meeting with representatives of universities and colleges. The green scholarship initiative was the deputy minister's main concern. To promote deficient occupations, the program was created by the Environmental Information and Education Centre of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.

‘’So that as many young people as possible are interested in environmental professions, it is crucial to work together with the educational sector and encourage their active participation in the process of disaster risk reduction. In order to guarantee that young people have access to high-quality environmental education at every step of the educational process, we are actively collaborating with representatives of the educational sector’’, according to Solomon Pavliashvili.

Participants in the meeting acquired about the national and international processes taking place in relation to climate change, as well as information about hydrometeorological activities, the significance of hazard maps, early warning systems, and how the National Environment Agency conducts hydrometric observation.

The university representatives expressed their readiness for collaboration and noted the need for more fieldwork to further train skilled and experienced personnel, as well as for lecturers to be retrained in this area and for the addition of new training programs to the curriculum.

The meeting was organized by the Environmental Information and Education Centre within the framework of the United Nations Development Programme's (UNDP) "Climate Change Disaster Risk Reduction in Georgia" project, which is supported by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the governments of Georgia, Sweden, and Switzerland.
