September 18 is World Cleaning Day

Georgia celebrates World Cleanup Day with a three-day clean up campaign. Clean up campaigns will be held throughout the country on September 17–19 within the framework of the project "Keep Georgia Tidy."

We often talk about various environmental issues. In this regard, one of the top priorities in the world today is proper waste management. The public should be aware of the negative consequences and dangers that can be posed by household or other types of waste, including hazardous waste. It is necessary for each of us to take responsibility for our living environment, "-said the Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture, Solomon Pavliashvili, at a press conference on the occasion of World Cleanup Day.

At the press conference, Eric Illes, Head of the Swedish Development Agency, and Nino Chkhobadze, Chairman of the Georgian Green Movement/Friends of the Earth Georgia, addressed the press conference.

"Sweden is collaborating with Georgia's government and citizens to enhance the country's waste management system." "I believe this is Georgia's campaign's purpose, which is also part of a global push to promote awareness about trash reduction, reuse, and recycling," Eric Illes stated.

"We have already established the celebration of World Clean Up Day as a tradition, and this year, in accordance with COVID regulations, cleaning actions will be held in all municipalities of Georgia," said Nino Chkhobadze.

International Cleanup Day and its celebration aim to raise awareness of the world's importance of improving the waste management system and its impact on the climate change process.

The international campaign was launched in 1993 at the initiative of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and involves 133 countries.
