Based on Georgian law, the environmental program "On Environmental Responsibility" was developed with the primary objectives of preventing environmental damage, restoring the state of the damaged environment, improving the state of the environment, and funding environmental research initiatives.
To oversee the environmental program, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia established the Environmental Program Commission, a deliberative body tasked with creating recommendations for the legal implementation of environmental measures within the environmental program.
Nino Tandilashvili, the first deputy minister of environmental protection and rural management, opened the Environmental Program Commission's first session.
The main goals of the environmental program, the selection of priority directions, the criteria for proposals to be submitted to the commission, and the definition of the application form were discussed.
At the meeting of the environmental program commission, it was decided that a working group would be created, which would be tasked with studying the proposals presented within the environmental program, defining the priority direction, and submitting recommendations to the commission regarding financing.
The members of the Environmental Program Commission are members of the legislative and executive authorities, and the nongovernmental organizations have submitted one candidate.
