A training session was held for students on "Management of Climate-Driven Disaster Risk and the Importance of Hazard Risk Mapping"

The Green Scholarships Program, which is implemented by the EIEC of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, aims to encourage master's students to perform highly academically in the field of environmental protection and to promote careers that are underrepresented in it.

The Centre hosted a training session for students enrolled in the Green Scholarship Program on the subject of "Disaster Risk Management and the Importance of Hazard Risk Mapping" in light of climate change.

The students received information about threats, vulnerabilities, opportunities, and their main characteristics at the local level. The representatives of the National Environmental Agency introduced hydro meteorological maps to the participants and discussed the possibility and importance of their use, as well as how the maps are used in the process of spatial planning and land permitting. At the meeting, students, together with an expert, discussed the issue of geoinformation systems, sensing, and actions against climate change.

The training was held within the large-scale initiative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), "Reducing the risk of climate-driven disasters caused by climate change in Georgia," with the support of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the governments of Georgia, Sweden, and Switzerland.
