Tamar Aladashvili, director of the EIEC of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, awarded the winners of the essay contest "Protect the forest for our green future." The objective of the contest is to raise students' awareness of sustainable forest management, challenges in this field, and ways to solve them.
Elena Samsian, a student at Tbilisi City's Newton Free School, is the contest winner. Salome Dzagania, a student at the public school in Bandze village of Martvili municipality, gained third place, followed by Badri Petruzashvili, a student at the second public school in Shildi village of Kvareli municipality, in second place.
Book vouchers were given to the finalists and winning students of the contest.
Within the contest, students had to present works on ways to reduce pressure on the forest, the proper use of wood and non-wood resources in the forest, alternative fuels, and the obligations of society to protect the forest. Essays were evaluated by a specially created committee according to predetermined criteria.
Representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) attended the award ceremony.
The EIEC has announced an essay contest for students interested in forest protection and sustainable management within the "ECO.Georgia" forest sector reform support project in Georgia.
The ECO. Georgia project is co-financed by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Government of Georgia, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The project is implemented by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Ministry of Environmental, Protection, and Agriculture of Georgia, with the involvement of subordinate agencies of the Ministry.
