To get acquainted with the forest opportunities and to provide information on using and discussing forest resources, the EIEC of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia organized an informational meeting with the population in the Guria region.
The meeting was opened by the deputy director, Ekaterine Bendeliani, and in the Guria area, the first deputy of the state representative, Ketevan Moipreshvili.
The participants received a piece of information on the changes considered by the forest code, the forest management plans of the region, the opportunities regarding sustainable forest management plans, energy-efficient alternative fuels, and the improvement of state control over the forest.
The meetings were held within the project of support for forest sector reform, ''ECO.Georgia''. The project aims to reduce forest pressure and forest loss through conservation and sustainable forest management. Also, the project aims to support the development of energy-efficient and alternative fuel markets, improve the opportunities of communities located near forests and local self-governments, and increase their involvement in current processes and the diversity of income resources.
The project covers 8 municipalities of Guria- Mtskheta-Mtianeti and Kakheti. (Lanchkhuti, Ozurgeti,Chikhatauri, Akhmeta, Dedoplistskaro, Khvareli,Tianeti) The ECO.
Georgia project is co-financed by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Government of Georgia, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The project is implemented by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture, with the involvement of subordinate agencies of the Ministry.
