In order to get acquainted with the principles of forest sector management, an information meeting was held in Tianeti Municipality

At the meeting organized by the Environmental Information and Education Center of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture in Tianeti Municipality, the participants discussed the issues of changes in the Forest Code of Georgia, sustainable forest management, improvement of state control over the forest, as well as the advantages of using energy-efficient stoves and alternative fuels.

The information meeting was opened by Ekaterine Bendeliani, deputy director of the Environmental Information and Education Center, and Gocha Kavtaradze, the first deputy state commissioner in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti area. The meeting was held within the framework of the "ECO.Georgia" project to support the reform of the forest sector in Georgia. The aim of the mentioned project is to reduce the pressure on the forest and forest loss in Georgia through sustainable forest management and conservation, at the same time, the project aims to promote the development of the market for energy-efficient and alternative fuels and to strengthen the capabilities of the communities and local governments located near the forest, to increase their involvement in the ongoing processes in the sector and to diversify the sources of income.

The project includes 8 municipalities of three regions of Georgia - Guria, Mtskheta-Mtianeti and Kakheti (Lanchkhuti, Ozurgeti, Chokhatauri, Akhmeta, Telavi, Dedoplistskaro, Kvareli, Tianeti). The ECO.Georgia project is co-financed by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Government of Georgia, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The project is implemented by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture, with the involvement of subordinate agencies of the Ministry.
