To integrate the "Environmental and Agricultural Education at School" program into the school space, the process of retraining primary-level teachers and curriculum experts is actively continuing. The EIEC of the Ministry of Environmental, Protection, and Agriculture of Georgia has already retrained more than 600 primary school teachers this year.
Tamar Aladashvili, the Director of EIEC, met with certified teachers during World Environment Day week, presenting them with certificates and instructional materials on "Environmental and Agricultural Education at School."
According to Tamar Aladashvili, "educating young people about human responsibility towards environmental obligations and integrating them at the primary level makes students more interested in environmental and agricultural topics." "Encouraging environmental awareness in society and promoting environmental education is of great importance to effectively manage natural resources."
A helpful manual for teachers, "Environmental and Agricultural Education at School," was prepared at the EIEC. The textbook covers important issues of environmental and agricultural education and is easily adaptable for students in the primary grades (grades I–VI).
Within the program, young people acquire basic knowledge on such important issues as sustainable development, biodiversity protection, water resource protection, air pollution protection, climate change and natural hazard reduction, waste management, land management and combating desertification, sustainable agriculture, and food safety and quality.
