During a meeting with stakeholders in the "Development of Georgia's V National Communication and I Biennial Transparency Report to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)" (5NC/1BTR), the EIEC discussed the National Greenhouse Gas Inventory document.
Data on greenhouse gas emissions and removals for 1990–2022 for the following sectors are included in the document: forestry, waste, industry, energy, agriculture and land use, and land use change.
The EIEC's director, Tamar Aladashvili, opened the meeting by highlighting the document's significance as part of the NC/BTR reporting and pointing out that the data on greenhouse gas emissions and removals will enable evaluation of the effectiveness of mitigation measures and their role in reaching NDC targets.
The experts of the Centre provided stakeholders with detailed information on updated data and trends in greenhouse gas emissions/removals in Georgia. Participants discussed the data collection methodology and opportunities for improving future inventories.
The meeting was attended by Maia Javakhishvili, Deputy Head of the Environment and Climate Change Department of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia; Nino Antadze, Head of the Environment and Energy Division of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP); and representatives of the state, international, non-governmental and private sectors.
The project "Development of Georgia's V National Communication and I Biennial Transparency Report to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)" is implemented with the support of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
