If you are interested in the profession of forestry, forest management systems, or simply forest biodiversity, and at the same time you are a student in grades 9-12, then this program is for you.
We are looking for motivated, energetic, and positive people who are interested in all topics related to the forest.
In order to take part in the forestry school, you need to:
Be a student of grades 9-12;
- Be interested in all issues related to forests;
- Be able to dedicate 4 hours a week to us;
- Have access to the Internet.
Please note, that Forestry School classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 16:00 to 18:00, using the Zoom platform.
The participants will learn about themes related to the forest within the context of the school and develop their critical thinking, the ability to defend their opinions and teamwork skills. The most significant is that they will make friends from across the country.
You will learn about the following subjects in the program:
✅ Georgian forests and their global level
✅ The role of forests in achieving sustainable development goals
✅ Forest types and main forest-forming woody species, woody and non-timber resources
✅ Sustainable forest management principles
✅ Forest biodiversity
✅ Climate change and its impact on forest, natural hazards
✅ Forest fires
✅ Seed production of forest woody species/forest restoration and -planting
✅ Energy efficiency and alternative fuel as an opportunity of reducepressure on forests
✅ Protected areas, ecotourism
✅ Forest monitoring and law enforcement mechanisms, logging accountability
✅ Forestry profession, forestry education, and employment sectors
✅ Media literacy - The role of public relations in environmental protection
Various approaches will be used during teaching, specifically:
✅Discussion of real examples
✅Role-playing games
✅Discussions
✅Interesting guests
✅Field trips
✅Visits
Upon completion of your course, you will recieve certificates and commemorative gifts. Most importantly, you will become friends of the Centre. You will have the opportunity to take an active part in the Cente’s future activities.
