Joint Meeting of the Annual and Supervisory Committees of the Project "Introduction of Sustainable Management of Landscape and Land Resources to Reduce Land Degradation and Poverty in Rural Areas"

The LEPL Eiec and the Caucasus Regional Environmental Centre (REC Caucasus) jointly organised the annual meeting of the project "Introduction of Sustainable Management of Landscape and Land Resources to Reduce Land Degradation and Poverty in Rural Areas."

During the meeting, the agencies in charge of implementing each project component gave presentations on their work so that everyone may learn about the project's final results.

The meeting was attended by decision-makers at the national and regional levels, as well as representatives of various academic sectors and non-governmental organisations, who expressed their opinions on the activities carried out under the project. Representatives of the project pilot municipalities (Dedoplistskaro, Akhmeta, and Gardabani) also spoke about the importance of the project and the results achieved based on the examples of their municipalities.

At the end of the meeting, Ersin Essen, Head of the UN Environment Program Group, evaluated positively the results achieved under the project and called on the parties involved to use the significant experience gained during the project's implementation in their further activities.

In 2016, the project "Introduction of Sustainable Landscape and Land Resource Management to Reduce Land Degradation and Poverty in Rural Areas" was initiated with the goal of incorporating sustainable rural and land management ideas and practices into national policies and institutes.

The project was initiated by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), supported by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the Caucasus Regional Environmental Centre (REC Caucasus).
